I first watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off about 15 years ago during an inspired late-night sewing and making session with my wee cousin, Danni. We were hopeful and young (we must have been early secondary school-age) and the prospect of taking a sneaky Day-Off to have an adventure in a big city was so exciting.
Over the years I’ve come back to this film with fond memories. It’s not just a story about some school kids skiving- it’s about aspirations, taking chances and living life.
And with that (and you might be wondering where this is going) I am pleased to say that within 4 weeks- I will be 100% self-employed and will no longer have a day-job. Leaving the security of a regular income and the familiarity of a workplace which I have been part of for the last 4 years was not an easy decision for me to make- while it’s the end of one (longer than anticipated) chapter in my life it is also the start of a new one- and I’m so excited!
In the famous words of Ferris (and at the risk of sounding super cheesy): “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it”. I can only hope I havn’t just reversed the metaphorical Ferrari through a plate-glass garage wall: wish me luck!
